Yatsenyuk: UK company to be hired to manage Ukraine's most corrupt customs

The Ukrainian government is waiting for the end of talks on the transfer of several Ukrainian customs houses under management of a UK-based company, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said during the government's Q&A session in parliament on Friday.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UAA1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"We expect the completion of the talks to place several Ukrainian customs houses under management of a British company," he said.

The company, which has been chosen by the Ukrainian government, has experience in managing customs in some EU member states, as well as in other countries, Yatsenyuk said.

"A British company will be hired to manage several customs houses to demonstrate that there not only a new culture of communication at the customs, but there is also a considerable difference between revenues at the customs houses managed by old-system, corrupt Ukrainian officials an and at the customs houses to be managed by the British company," Yatsenyuk said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, while presenting the reform of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine to the public in June, Yatsenyuk suggested that foreign companies be engaged in the management of the most corrupt customs houses in Ukraine as an experiment.

Ukrainian Minister of Economic Development and Trade Aivaras Abromavicius earlier announced that the Ukrainian government was discussing the transfer of the customs under management of an outsourced foreign company. He said that the outsourcing of customs management had earlier been practiced by a number of emerging economies. He, in particular, mentioned UK-based Crown Agents Ltd. as an example of the outsourcing.
