Ukraine in talks with Kazakhstan on gas transit options

Ukraine and Kazakhstan have agreed to further develop trade and economic cooperation between the two states according to the principles and norms of the World Trade Organization (WTO), which is said to boost trade turnover between the countries.

Appropriate arrangements have been set out in the Protocol of the twelfth session of the joint Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Kazakh Commission for Economic Cooperation signed on July 16 by Vice Prime Minister - Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities of Ukraine, Head of Ukrainian side of the Commission Hennadiy Zubko and First Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Head of the Kazakh side of the Commission Bak

ytzhan Sagintayev, according to a statement by the Ukrainian government.

Ukraine and Kazakhstan are to send delegations of experts to resolve the issue of supplying Kazakh A-grade coal to Ukraine, to work out the issue of supply to Ukraine and transit of crude oil via pipelines.

"The participants of the meeting also agreed to study the issue of supply to Ukraine of Kazakhstan-produced natural gas and transit through the territory of Kazakhstan of Turkmen and Uzbek natural gas," the statement reads.

In addition, Ukraine and Kazakhstan also intend to develop a new strategy of bilateral relations, which will cover such fields as power engineering, aviation and space industry development.

"It is relevant to Ukrainian companies to participate in the implementation of government programs and projects in Kazakhstan, primarily in the areas of transport and related infrastructure, energy, aviation, and peaceful space exploration," according to the statement citing Zubko.

As noted by the press service, the parties also discussed the prospects of setting up joint ventures in Kazakhstan to produce agricultural and railway equipment; implementation of programs in the field of joint nuclear energy; modernization and construction of new energy facilities, attraction of Ukrainian experts and technologies in the field of exploration, drilling and transportation of Kazakh hydrocarbons.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said that Ukraine had signed a bilateral protocol on access of goods to the Kazakh market in connection with the country's entry to the WTO, which provides for protection of Ukraine's trade interests in case of restrictive measures imposition.
