US Treasury: Greek debt restructuring talks moving ahead

Greece’s talks with its creditors about the possibility of reducing and restructuring the external debt have shifted toward mutual understanding of how much relief will be needed, a senior U.S. Treasury official told Reuters on Tuesday.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UAA1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Two weeks ago, the discussion over whether or not debt restructuring would even be on the table was different than it is today," he said, according to Reuters.

"And now the question is what form will it take and how big will it be," the official told reporters.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the timing for the approval of a bailout package worth EUR 86 billion ($94 billion) is seen quite delicate. The national parliament should approve a new bailout program by August 13 so that a disbursement can take place in time for a bond redemption of about EUR 3.2 billion for notes held by the European Central Bank. On Monday, Greece paid the ECB punctually about 4.2 billion euros in maturing debt and interest.
