Ukraine to promote energy efficiency by giving loans

The State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine (SAEE) estimates that a total of UAH 1 billion in loans will be disbursed to the population for energy-efficiency purposes until the end of 2015, said SAEE Chairman Serhiy Savchuk at a press conference, according to news portal RBC-Ukraine.

"A total of UAH 20 million in loans for insulation [of residencies] was disbursed just in the month before the last, UAH 60 million in loans for insulation next month, with additional UAH 50 million disbursed over the two weeks of the current month. Therefore, we estimate that at least UAH 1 billion will be disbursed within the framework of our program until the end of the year," Savchuk said.

He noted that such program will be also extended through 2016.

In addition, Savchuk said that specialists in retail networks will consult Ukrainians on energy-saving equipment and materials.

"We’ve had meetings with banks, we’ve held meetings with major retail chains accounting for more than 80% of materials sales in the market, and today we have a common vision, a common action plan regarding the information policy. Currently, retail networks do not only display information banners promoting our program, but they also invite representatives of banks, and even express loan counters have been arranged in such retail networks. We agreed that the employees of such retail networks would have complete knowledge about our program to be able to provide proper consultation for any customer interested in purchasing particular [energy saving] materials," Savchuk said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, E5P, a multi-donor fund managed by the EBRD to facilitate investments in energy efficiency and environmental projects in the Eastern Partnership countries, was ready to allocate EUR 100 million for energy efficiency projects in Ukraine.
