Ukraine wants to borrow $3 bln more by year-end

The Ukrainian Finance Ministry plans to raise another $3 billion in loans by the end of the year, according to Deputy Finance Minister Artem Shevalev.

"If in numbers, it's over $3 billion, which we will borrow by the end of the current year," he said at a Finance Ministry board meeting on Monday.

According to Shevalev, government borrowings for the general fund of Ukraine's national budget have already amounted to $4.5 billion since the beginning of the year.

Finance Minister Natalie Jaresko who was present at the meeting reported that almost all of those funds had been used to repay old debts.

"Most of these funds have been channeled into the payment of foreign debts," she said.

The ministry's officials also noted that the sum of public and publicly guaranteed debt of Ukraine had decreased.

"Currently it is $68 billion against $73 billion we had [last year]," according to Head of Finance Ministry's Debt and International Financial Policy Department Halyna Pakhachuk.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine's public and publicly guaranteed debt shrank by $2.151 billion, or 3.08%, in January-May 2015 to $67.661 billion as of May 31, 2015.

During this period, the country's public and publicly guaranteed debt in the hryvnia equivalent increased by UAH 323 billion, or 29.37%, amounting to UAH 1.424 trillion.

In 2014, public and publicly guaranteed debt shrank by 4.53% to $69.794 billion in foreign currency, while it expanded by 1.9 times to UAH 1.101 trillion in the hryvnia equivalent.
