No gas imports from Russia in last month, supplies from EU down two times

Ukraine has suspended the imports of Russian gas while significantly reducing its purchases from the European Union.

No Russian gas was imported over the past month, with the total gas purchases having been reduced more than twice in July 2015 - to 0.6 bcm against 1.369 bcm in the previous month, according to the report of a state-owned operator of Ukraine's gas transportation system Ukrtransgaz.

In July, Ukraine imported gas only from Slovakia, according to the company.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on July 1, Ukraine had suspended gas deliveries from Russia after fruitless talks in Vienna and significantly reduced its purchases from the EU.

Ukrainian Energy Minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn stated Ukraine would need to buy 5-6 bcm of gas to meet the needs of the 2015-2016 heating season, which is projected to require up to $1 billion in funds that Naftogaz of Ukraine currently does not possess.
