Ukraine increases imports of Slovak gas by third

On August 6, Ukraine will increase the daily volume of natural gas imports from Slovakia by 33% to 30.3 mcm compared to the previous days, the press service of a state-owned operator of Ukraine's gas transportation system Ukrtransgaz told an UNIAN correspondent.

"As of today, we received an application for the daily transportation of gas from the territory of Slovakia in the amount of 30.3 million cubic meters that is 33% more than yesterday's imports amount," Head of Public Relations and Press of PJSC Ukrtransgaz Maksym Beliavskiy said.

According to him, a total of 115 mcm of gas were received through Slovakia from August 1 to August 5.

As UNIAN reported earlier, no Russian gas was imported over the past month, with the total gas purchases having been reduced more than twice in July 2015 - to 0.6 bcm against 1.369 bcm in the previous month.

In July, Ukraine imported gas only from Slovakia, according to the company.

Ukrainian Energy Minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn stated Ukraine would need to buy 5-6 bcm of gas to meet the needs of the 2015-2016 heating season, which is projected to require up to $1 billion in funds that Naftogaz of Ukraine currently does not possess.
