The Government proposal to lower the minimum allowed temperature in households from 18°С to 16°С this winter may indirectly indicate the problem of gas shortages in winter months, acording to Oleksiy Kucherenko, former minister for housing and utilities and chairman of the Ukraine's Union of Homeowners, the online news source Apostrophe reports.

Kucherenko also does not rule out power outages due to a failure to arrange for sufficient coal supplies. In addition, Ukrainian ex-minister notes that power networks will not be able to ensure additional heating of households when people start massively using electric heaters due to lower central heating levels

"But the difference is that, for example, in Germany such decision has been made by people themselves, and not by Merkel [German Chancellor] based on their financial means and high energy prices, by setting temperature regime, even regulating the temperature in different rooms," Kucherenko said.
