In an effort to mass up natural gas reserves in its underground storage facilities in a run-up to the 2015-2016 heating season, Ukraine is increasing its reverse gas imports from the EU, according to the data of Eustream, the operator of the Slovak gas transmission system (GTS).

Over the past week, August 10-14, the average daily volume of gas imports amounted to 33 mcm, according to Eustream.

The Hungarian GTS operator FGSZ stated that the average daily volumes of gas reverse to Ukraine remains at about 1.9 mcm with the installed daily capacity of 16 mcm.

According to a state-owned operator of Ukraine's GTS Ukrtransgaz, Ukraine imported 474.6 mcm of gas during the period from August 1 to August 16.

"During this period, natural gas was transmitted only through the Slovak gas transport corridor," according to Ukrtransgaz.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine plans to pump 13.879 bcm of gas into underground storage facilities in 2015 to meet the needs of the 2015-2016 heating season and ensure smooth transit supplies of Russian gas to the EU member states.
