On August 13-14, Ukrenergo met with the heads of Luhansk regional military and civil administration.

"The key goal of the talks is to discuss the possibility of rebuilding the overhead transmission lines, which were damaged during military operations in Luhansk region," the company said.

In particular, the point at issue are power lines between Luhansk thermal power plant and Yuvileyna substation (220 kV), Mykhailivka and Lysychanska (330 kV), Mykhailivka and Yuvileyna (330 kV), Vuhlehirska thermal power plant and Mykhailivka (330 kV).

"On the agenda were also measures to enhance the reliability of the electricity supply to consumers in the northern areas of Luhansk region that are controlled by Ukraine," the company said.

"Following the talks, a preliminary decision was made on the possibility of building a new overhead 220 kV transmission line, which will be fed from Russian-based Novovoronezhskaya nuclear power plant and Donbaska substation through a 500 kV transmission high-voltage power line. The tentative duration of the project is from nine to 12 months," the company said.

As of today, the north of Luhansk region operates in an energy-island mode, being singled out from Ukraine's power grids and fed from Luhansk thermal power plant.
