Russian ruble plunges to six-month low – RUR 73 per euro

A new local maximum of the euro was recorded on the Moscow foreign exchange market on Tuesday, August 18: one hour after the start of trading, the European currency reached RUR 73 per euro for the first time since February, according to Russian information agency RBK.

At 11:19 Moscow time, the trading recorded a new local maximum – RUR 73.05 per euro, followed by the decline back to lower values.

The official ruble exchange rate was rising to RUR 65.90 to the dollar during the morning trading.

On August 18, the central bank of the Russian Federation set the following official exchange rates of the ruble against leading foreign currencies: RUR 65.5034 to the dollar and RUR 72.5712 to the euro.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Brent futures LCOc1 were at $48.60 a barrel, down 14 cents but still some way from their 2015-low of $45.19.

U.S. crude futures CLc1 were trading 10 cents lower at $41.77 per barrel, not far off more than six-year lows touched earlier this week.
