Ukraine cuts food production by quarter

In January-July 2015 in Ukraine significantly cut back on production of food, in particular chocolate (30%), biscuits (24%), juices (29%) and sunflower oil (22.4%), while Ukraine remains world's largest exporter of sunflower oil, according to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.

In January-July, Ukraine produced 89,300 tonnes of chocolate and food products containing cocoa, which is lower by 29.6% year-over-year, according to the State Statistics Service.

In particular, in July, the output of the products amounted to 11,500 tonnes, up by 18.1% compared to June, but 22.6% less than in July of last year.

The production of sweet biscuits and waffles in January-July fell by 23.5% to 138,000 tonnes. In July this year, Ukraine produced 22,300 tonnes of these products, more by 9.6% compared to the output in June, but 8.6% less in the same period last year.

Production of cocoa-free confectionery increased by 3.4% in the reporting period compared to January-July last year. In absolute terms, the production volume amounted to 108,000 tonnes, with 16,000 tonnes produced in July, which is 4.1% more than in June of this year and 7.3% more than in July last year.

In addition, in January-July of this year, the Ukrainian companies slowed the production of fruit and vegetable by 29.1% down to 131,000 tonnes as compared to the same period of last year, according to the State Statistics Service.

The output of juice blends amounted to 119,000 tonnes in the reported period, which is 21.2% less than in the same period of last year.

Production of canned vegetables in January-July fell by 39.5% to 23,700 tonnes.

The output of crude sunflower oil in Ukraine amounted to 2.023 million tonnes in January-July 2015, which is lower by 22.4% year-over-year, according to the report.

At the same time, the output of sunflower oil in July amounted to 207,000 tonnes, which is 35.8% less than in July 2014, and 16.4% less than last month.

The State Statistics Service also reported that the output of margarine and edible fats decreased by 26% to 117,000 tonnes over the last seven months.

The data are presented excluding the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol, as well as part of the Anti-Terrorist Operation zone.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the production of sunflower oil in Ukraine increased by 26.7% in 2014, amounting to 4.2 million tonnes, the output of margarines and fats declined by 4% to 269,000 tonnes.
