Abromavicius: Fertilizers in Ukraine overpriced

Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine considers fertilizer prices too high, Ukraine’s Economy Minister Aivaras Abromavicius tweeted on Tuesday.

"Fertilizers have on 26-74% more expensive than elsewhere around the world, because of the artificial restrictions. Farmers finance monopolists ", - the minister said.

According to Abromavicius, ammonia costs $556 per ton (excluding VAT) in Ukraine, while FOB Black Sea price is $375 without VAT. Carbamide is $341 versus $271, respectively. The price of ammonium nitrate is $328 within Ukraine, while FOB price is $188.

Read alsoYatsenyuk expects Ukraine to earn $6 bln from agri-exports in 2015As UNIAN reported earlier, in mid-August, Ukraine’s Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk instructed the Energy Ministry, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, and the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade to draft forecasts of domestic production of nitrogen fertilizers, as well as to assess the necessary volume of imports of these products. According to Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the shortage of fertilizers to farmers in the current year could reach 300,000 tons.
