Finance Ministry expects return of $1.3 bln of funds misappropriated by Yanukovych

Ukraine’s Ministry of Finance is expecting $1.3 billion of funds misappropriated by ousted ex-president Viktor Yanukovych return to the state budget, Minister Natalie Jaresko said in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

"I think we need to say – and the public is expecting it – that the assets of Yanukovych will not only be seized or confiscated but also returned to the budget," said Jaresko.

She stressed that this could be a one-time tranche.

According to Jaresko, this one-time transaction would be very important to reduce Ukraine’s budget deficit.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Switzerland plans to pass legislation before the end of 2015 that would speed up the return of assets which were illegally transferred by former leaders of different states.
