SBU blocks VAT refunds to Akhmetov’s businesses registered in so-called DPR

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has suspended vallue-added tax (VAT) refunds to three companies registered in the self-styled Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and are part of Metinvest holding company, owned by Rinat Akhmetov, the SBU’s press service has reported.

According to the report, the SBU has suspended the reimbursement of VAT to Metinvest-Ukraine, Ltd; PJSC Khartsyzsk Pipe Plant and PJSC Yenakiyevo Steel Plant.

"Business entities have applied for a VAT refund, despite the fact that their legal and actual addresses, as well as manufacturing facilities are located in the territories controlled by the DPR terrorist organization. Due to response of employees of the State Treasury Service, the funding of these companies and unjustified budget expenditures in their favor have been blocked," the report says.

The ministry says that, according to the provisions of the Budget Code of Ukraine, the implementation of the state budget expenditures will take place only after the return of the militant-controlled territories under the control of the Ukrainian authorities.

UNIAN memo. Khartsyzsk Pipe Plant and Yenakiyevo Steel Plant are part of Metinvest group.

The main shareholders of Metinvest is Akhmetov's SCM (71.24%) and Smart-Holding, owned by Vadym Novinsky (23.76%).
