Ukraine opens Common Aviation Area with EU

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has approved a resolution of the National Security and Defense Council "On measures to protect the national interests of Ukraine in the field of aviation" with a corresponding decree on September 4, according to the President’s website.

The NSDC instructed the Ukrainian Government to adopt an action plan on the introduction of common aviation area between Ukraine and the European Union and its Member States, providing, in particular, adaptation of Ukrainian legislation  in the field of air transportation to that of the EU.

The Government is given a month to study the issue of reorganization of the State Aviation Service of Ukraine, optimization of state regulation on the use of Ukaine’s airspace, the implementation of state supervision in the field of civil aviation, etc.

The document provides for the Cabinet to approve the action plan on transforming Borispyl (Kyiv) International Airport into an international hub.

The Government is also instructed to draft measures to investigate the downing of flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine.
