Ukraine to get Shell's calculations on shale gas production in east of country

The Dutch-British oil company Shell that had started the process of development of deposits of unconventional hydrocarbons in Kharkiv and Donetsk regions, but later in June decided to put an end to this project, is ready to hand all of its project documentation to Ukraine and the Nadra Yuzovska company, head of the National Joint Stock Company Nadra Ukrainy Yaroslav Klymovych said in an interview with UNIAN.

"Shell has spent a lot of money on developing this project. They invested funds in exploration, reprocessing, and reinterpretation. Pipes and other technical equipment were purchased. Unfortunately, Shell told us in June that they had decided to cut this project. After this, two participants will remain in the project - the State and Nadra Yuzivska," Klymovych said.

A total of 90% of Nadra Yuzivska is owned by the state, namely by Nadra Ukrainy.

"Shell took advantage of the paragraph of production sharing agreement (PSA), which provides for a delayed force majeure," he said.

He said that Shell and the State had signed an additional agreement to the PSA to resolve this issue.

However, Klymovych said that it makes no sense to abandon the project because of its prospects, as well as interest from other investors.
