Ukraine reduces gas consumption by 20%

In January-August, 2015, Ukraine has reduced consumption of natural gas compared to the same period of last year by 20.2% - down to 21.848 billion cubic meters, according to the Energy Ministry.

Consumption of gas by the country’s industry was reduced by a quarter in eight months of 2015 - down to 7.437 bcm, Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy and Coal has reported.

Households and budget institutions have cut consumption by 20.4% - to 8.145 bcm, utility companies and thermal power plants - by 10.9%, to 4.341 bcm.

According to head of Ukrtransgaz Ihor Prokopiv, the reduction is a result of separation of Ukraine’s militant-occupied areas from the country’s energy grid, and also of the decline in industrial production.
