Russia admits Ukrainian sanctions threat, ready to appeal to Brussels

Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Alexei Ulyukayev did not rule out that the state would support the companies that are subject to Ukrainian sanctions, depending on their economic situation, Russian information agency TASS reported.

At this, Ulyukayev stated that the issue [expansion of Ukrainian sanctions against Russia] would be raised at the forthcoming tripartite meeting in Brussels in November.

"Over the last year, more than 40 regulations of different levels have been adopted targeting Russian investors and Russian companies, which worsens their operational conditions," Ulyukayev said.

He recalled that Russia had already prepared a package of measures for the introduction of food embargo regarding Ukrainian products from January 1, 2016, should the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU come into force.

"We will also consider other options," Ulyukayev said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk stated when opening a government meeting on September 16 that Ukraine was ready for Russia's food embargo and would take retaliatory measures in response to the Russian import ban on Ukrainian products.
