The next review mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is starting its work in Ukraine on Tuesday, September 22, Ukraine's Finance Minister Natalie Jaresko said at a meeting of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs.

"Starting September 22, we have the next review of the IMF mission that will be looking to see whether we are continuing along this path or not," Jaresko said.

The minister noted that the Ukrainian government expects that Ukraine will receive the next tranche of the IMF loan after the mission completes work.

"We expect that we will successfully receive the fifth tranche in this period of time and continue to build our reserves," Jaresko said.

The minister also noted that the government managed to secure an important amount of financial assistance from the United States, Canada, the European Union and other partners, including Germany, Poland, Japan, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the European Investment Bank.

Jaresko also stressed that the U.S. was "critically important" in maintaining sanctions against the aggressor, as well as in supporting Ukraine.

As UNIAN earlier reported, Ukraine and the IMF are implementing a financial assistance program for Ukraine, designed for four years, under the Enhanced Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and worth a total of $17.5 billion. Ukraine received the first tranche under the program totaling $5 billion on March 13 - immediately after the approval of the program. The IMF Executive Board approved on July 31 the second tranche of the loan in the amount of $1.7 billion. The funds were settled in the accounts of the National Bank of Ukraine on August 4 and transferred to Ukraine's foreign exchange reserves.
