"Just imagine: Sugar exports have skyrocketed by 100 times compared to the same period last year – from $361,000 to $37.7 million," the minister wrote.

He also noted that the surplus of foreign trade in farm produce during the period under review amounted to $5.6 billion.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine's agricultural sector was able to export products worth $7.7 billion in the seven months of the current year, which accounted for 35% of total forex receipts from exports. In particular, sugar exports totaled about 100,000 tonnes in the eight months of the current year, according to an update.

The Agrarian Ministry projects that Ukraine will produce about 1.2-1.3 million tonnes of sugar this year. Domestic demand for this product is about 1.7 million tonnes, and will be met due to available ending stocks estimated at 500,000 tonnes.
