Poroshenko enhances rights of online shoppers

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed a law on e-commerce providing for protection of consumer rights of the users of online stores, making legal implications of electronic transactions equal to those of contracts concluded in writing.

The law No. 675-VIII, adopted by Rada on September 3, introduces legal requirements for and mechanisms of remote conclusion of transactions, the President’s press service has told UNIAN.

The signed law is aimed at ensuring legitimacy, transparency, and credibility of such transactions; and will, in turn, accelerate the process of integration into the global information space.

Sellers are obliged to provide direct, simple, secure access to information about the products’ full name and location, and also about the license, when necessary.

In addition, it establishes the obligation for all participants to protect the users’ personal data according to the law "On protection of personal data."

The law takes into account the basic principles of consumer rights protection, according to the Ukrainian legislation, and gives electronic transactions legal implications equal to those of contracts concluded in writing.

The law should bring Ukrainian legislation closer to the European standards in the field of innovative technology and e-commerce.
