Vegetable yield to exceed domestic demand by 30%

A vegetable yield in Ukraine in 2015 is estimated to reach 8.7 million tonnes, exceeding domestic demand by 30%, which amounts to 6.7 million tonnes, Ukrainian Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Oleksiy Pavlenko wrote on Twitter.

"According to preliminary data, the yield of vegetable crop is estimated at 8.7 million tonnes with consumption being 6.7 million tonnes (160.2 kg per person)," the minister wrote.

Pavlenko noted that the lion's share of the vegetables, or 7.4 million tonnes, will be obtained from the households.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine's State Statistics Service estimated that the gross yield of field vegetables in Ukraine amounted as of September 1, 2015, to 4.4 million tonnes, which is 6.5% down year-over-year. At this, the gross yield of potatoes as of September 1 stood at 13.9 million tonnes, 16.8% up year-over-year.

In 2014, the yield of vegetables in the country grew by 2.6%, to 9.6 million tonnes, that of potatoes was 8.4% up from 2013, to 23.7 million tonnes.
