Ukraine saw a $349 million deficit in the balance of payments January through August 2015 against a $4.587 billion deficit posted in the same period last year, according to the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).
According to NBU preliminary reports, a $513 million surplus of the balance of payments was registered in August 2015 alone, whereas there was a deficit worth $42 million in August 2014.
The regulator said that the formation of the surplus of the balance of payments in August and the arrival of a second tranche worth $1.7 billion under the International Monetary Fund's Extended Fund Facility translated into the growth of the international reserves to $12.6 billion, which is equal to the financing of four-month future imports.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine's balance of payments January through July 2015 saw an $862 million deficit against a $4.545 billion deficit in the same period last year.
In 2014, Ukraine posted a $13.307 billion deficit in the balance of payments against a $2.023 billion surplus in 2013.
