Ukraine threshes 43.5 mln tonnes of grain

Ukraine had threshed 43.5 million tonnes of grain from an area of 11.7 million hectares by October 5, 2015, with an average grain crop capacity being 37.1 centners, or 3.71 tonnes, per hectare, according to Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Minister Oleksiy Pavlenko.

In particular, Ukrainian farmers harvested 5.9 million tonnes of maize from 1.2 million hectares and 132,000 tonnes of buckwheat from 113,000 hectares. The yield of millet was 202,000 tonnes from 102,000 hectares and that of sunflower seeds was 8.3 million tonnes from 4 million hectares, Pavlenko wrote on Facebook.

Agri-businesses also harvested 2.2 million tonnes of soybeans from 1.3 million hectares and 2.6 million tonnes of sugar beets from 66,000 hectares.

By August 19, Ukraine had completed an early grain harvesting campaign, having threshed 36.7 million tonnes of grain from 10.1 million hectares. In particular, the harvest of wheat was 26.8 million tonnes and that of barley 8.5 million tonnes. Farmers also harvested 392,000 tonnes of peas and 1.7 million tonnes of rapeseeds.

The gross yield of maize in 2015 is projected at 24.5 million tonnes, that of buckwheat at 135,000 tonnes and sunflower seeds at 10.3 million tonnes. The yield of sugar beets is expected at 9.3 million tonnes.

Grain exports in the current marketing year, from July 2015 to June 2016, are projected by the Agrarian Ministry at 36.8 million tonnes.
