Ukraine's public debt rises to $70.6 bln

Public debt in the hryvnia equivalent increased by UAH 394.059 billion, or by 35.8%, up to UAH 1.494 trillion in January-August, 2015.

The total amount of public and government-backed debt of Ukraine amounted to $70.562 billion on August 31, 2015, which is $750 million, or 1.07% more than at the beginning of the year, according to the website of Ukraine’s Finance Ministry.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the total public and government-backed debt in the hryvnia equivalent increased by UAH 394.059 billion, or by 35.8% - up to UAH 1.494 trillion, in January - August.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine’s total public and government-backed debt amounted to $67.661 billion as of May 31, 2015, which was $314 million, or 0.47% more compared to the beginning of the month. In May, the total amount of public and government-backed debt increased by UAH 7 billion in the hryvnia equivalent, or by 0.49%, up to UAH 1.424 trillion.
