Ukraine's gas imports from EU surge

On October 7, Ukraine doubled its daily volumes of natural gas imports from Slovakia compared to the previous day - up to 9,645 million cubic meters (mcm), and continues to increase the supply of hydrocarbons from the EU, according to the data of Eustream, the operator of the Slovak gas transportation system (GTS).

According to the company, daily volume of gas supplies to Ukraine through Slovakia during October 1-5 amounted to 8.8 mcm, which is almost three times lower than in September, and on October 6 they decreased to 4.4 mcm.

However, starting from October 7, Ukraine has increased daily volumes of natural gas imports from Slovakia. On October 7, Ukraine imported 9.645 mcm, on October 8 - 16.042 mcm, on October 9 - 15.951 mcm, on October 10 - 15.94 mcm, and on October 11 - 15.948 mcm. According to Eustream, Ukraine's request for October 12 amounts to 15.951 mcm.

It is worth noting that over the last two months, Ukraine's entire gas imports have come from  Slovakia.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on October 12, the Russian gas monopoly Gazprom resumed gas supplies to Ukraine after the receipt of an advance payment of Naftogaz Ukrainy in the amount of $234 million of the promised $500 million.

According to Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Ukraine intends to increase its natural gas reserves to 19 billion cubic meters (bcm) before the beginning of winter heating season in mid-October to ensure uninterrupted gas transit to Europe.

As of October 10, 15.798 bcm of gas has been accumulated in Ukraine's underground storage facilities.
