Ukrainians pay UAH 6.4 bln in war tax since year's start

Ukrainian taxpayers transferred UAH 6.39 billion, or $291 million, in war tax to the national budget January through September 2015, which was 14.4% up on the target figure, according to the Ukrainian Fiscal Service.

In September 2015 alone, war tax payments totaled UAH 778.2 million, or $35.49 million, which was 9.3% up on the planned amount.

As UNIAN reported earlier, war tax was introduced in Ukraine in August 2014 as an additional source of financing army expenses in connection with the anti-terrorist operation in Donetsk and Luhansk regions. A war tax rate is set at 1.5% of individual incomes subject to taxation.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk earlier reported that from August 2014 to the end of December 2014, Ukrainians transferred UAH 1.885 billion in war tax, while spending on defense and military in 2014 grew by UAH 15.6 billion from 2013.
