EBRD to allocate EUR 100mln to upgrade public transport in Ukraine

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has approved the allocation of a EUR 100 million loan for the modernization of public transportation infrastructure in a number of Ukrainian cities, an UNIAN correspondent reported referring to Foreign Relations Adviser of the EBRD Anton Usov.

The EBRD Board of Governors considered the projects on October 14, 2015, he said.

The loans may be extended to public transportation companies in Odesa, Chernihiv, Chernivtsi and some other Ukrainian cities under municipality guarantees.

According to Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov, the need to upgrade the trolleybus fleet of the city is long overdue, because service life of 100 out of 140 available trolleybuses in the city has expired.

As reported, funding of the purchase of trolleybuses for Odesa is a long term project, namely for a 12-year period.

UNIAN. The EBRD is the largest international financial investor in Ukraine. As of September 1, 2015, the bank had total commitments of EUR 11 billion in 346 projects in the country.
