Unemployment rate in Ukraine declines to 1.5% in September

The unemployment rate in Ukraine in September 2015 slightly declined from August 2015, to 1.5%, according to the State Statistics Service.

The number of the unemployed in absolute terms fell by 7,000 people, to 407,400 from 414,000 people in August 2015.

The number of the unemployed receiving unemployment compensation decreased by 8,000 people, to 317,000. The average sum of an unemployment benefit grew to UAH 1,387 (about $65) from UAH 1,260 (about $59) per capita. The rate of job seekers per vacancy increased from nine to ten people.

The State Statistics Service says that the information does not cover data from the Russian-occupied Crimea and separatist-held areas in Donbas, where Ukraine carries out the Anti-Terrorist Operation.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the unemployment rate in Ukraine under the methodology of the International Labor Organization (ILO) fell to 9.2% in the first half of the current year, whereas it was 10% in the first quarter of the current year.

At the same time, the number of the unemployed increased by 0.2% in the first half of 2015 against the same period of 2014. The unemployment rate is higher than the average indicator in the following regions: Vinnytia, Volyn, Zakarpattia, Kirovohrad, Poltava, Rivne, Sumy, Ternopil, Kherson, Cherkasy, Chernivtsi, and Chernihiv regions. The highest indictors were recorded in Donetsk and Luhansk regions – 14.1% and 16.6%, respectively. The other regions saw a decline in the unemployment rate. The lowest indicators were in the city of Kyiv, as well as in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Odesa regions, where the rate did not exceed 7%.

The unemployment rate in Ukraine in 2014 was 9.7%, according to ILO standards. ILO and the International Monetary Fund forecast it will rise to 11.5% before the end of the current year.

The Fund of Compulsory State Unemployment Insurance estimates that the number of Ukrainians who do not have a permanent job or are hidden unemployed is about five million people.
