Ukrainian farmers thresh almost 50 mln tonnes of grain

Ukrainian farmers had threshed 49.6 million tonnes of grain as of October 16, 2015, from 12.8 million hectares, which was 88% of the planned areas, according to the Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry's press service.

The yield of maize for grain was 11.8 million tonnes, harvested from an area of 2.3 million hectares (56% of the forecast), that of buckwheat was 138,000 tonnes from 118,000 hectares (89%), and that of millet was 207,000 tonnes from 104,000 hectares (96%). Farmers harvested 10 million tonnes of sunflower seeds from 4.7 million hectares (95%).

In addition, 3 million tonnes of soybeans were harvested from an area of 1.7 million hectares (81%), and 4.8 million tonnes of sugar beets were gathered from 122,000 hectares (51%).

Potatoes were harvested from an area of 1.25 million hectares (97% of the forecast), and the yield was 20.9 million tonnes.

The gross yield of maize is expected at 24.5 million tonnes, that of buckwheat at 135,000 tonnes, sunflower at 10.3 million tonnes, and sugar beets at 9.3 million tonnes. Grain exports in the current marketing year (July 2015 through June 2016) are projected by the Ukrainian Agrarian Policy Ministry at 36.8 million tonnes.
