It is almost impossible today to ensure uninterrupted work of Ukraine’s thermal power plants (TPPs), half of which feed on anthracite coal, with the country’s own production volumes, because of the hostilities in the east of the country, where the majority of mines are located.

Nuclear power plants generate nearly 50% of all Ukraine’s electricity, while the rest is produced by TPPs burning natural gas and coal, as well as hydroelectric power plants, and "green" energy. The lack of gas and stoppage of the 80% of the mines have led to a shortage of energy resources and, as a consequence, of electricity.
