Fate of Russia’s Nord Stream-2 depends on Naftogaz reform - media

Successful blocking of Russia's project to build a Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline depends largely on the evidence of greater economic attractiveness of gas transit through Ukraine, Europeiska Pravda reported citing its source in the European Commission, involved in the negotiations with Gazprom.

"When we say that this is not an economic, but purely political project aimed against Ukraine, we forget that it also involves the European companies. Gazprom has only 51% in it," the source said.

This fact is a serious argument against Ukraine, according to European official.

"In order to prove the political nature of this project, you need to demonstrate greater success, and most importantly - reliability of the Ukrainian transit. It is only possible to accomplish by the reform of Naftogaz, and the company’s rise to a level of a break-even activity," he said.
