"There is one major area of cooperation between Russia and Germany - energetics. Last year heads of the Union of Entrepreneurs voiced nice words on camera in support of Angela Merkel's course aimed against the Russian aggression," the journalist said.

"Of course, sanctions against Moscow for the annexation of Crimea should be imposed. We stand for the rule of international law," they had said.

A Die Welt correspondent points out that several Russian-German energy deals worth over EUR 1 billion each have been concluded since that time.
