The grounds for the search was a year-old criminal case into buying and selling Bitcoin online, at kuna.com.ua. In May, 2015, Chobanyan was questioned by the prosecutor's office, providing all the documents requested. Two directors of Ukraine's National Bank later confirmed that Bitcoin business was legal, Ukraine Today reported.

During the raid, the cybercrime police presented a court order, which again accused Chobanyan of illegally trading in crypto-currency.
