Ukraine threshes over 57 mln tonnes of grain

Ukraine had threshed 57.1 million tonnes of grain by November 6, 2015, from 14.1 million hectares, or 96% of areas under crops, according to the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry's press service.

The yield of maize for seeds was 19.3 million tonnes harvested from 3.5 million hectares, or 86% of the planned area. The harvest of buckwheat totaled 141,000 tonnes gathered from 124,000 hectares (99%) and that of millet was 210,000 tonnes from 105,000 hectares (99.8%). Sunflower seed output was 10.8 million tonnes harvested from 5 million hectares (99%).

Farmers also threshed 3.6 million tonnes of soybeans from 2.06 million hectares (96%) and harvested 8.3 million tonnes of sugar beets from 200,000 hectares (84%).

The largest harvests were in Poltava region (4.6 million tonnes of grain), Kharkiv region (4.3 million tonnes), and Dnipropetrovsk region (3.9 million tonnes).

The ministry forecasts the gross yield of grain in 2015 at 58.5-60 million tonnes. Grain exports in the current marketing year, July 2015 through June 2016, are projected at 36.8 million tonnes.
