Moscow offers consultations in response to Ukraine's WTO claim

Russia's First Deputy Minister of Economic Development Alexey Likhachev announces Moscow has suggested holding consultations on November 17 in response to Ukraine's claim against Russia, which was lodged with the World Trade Organization (WTO), according to Russian news agency RIA Novosti.

"We've suggested [holding] consultations on the 17th. It seems they haven't confirmed [yet]," Likhachev told reporters, RIA wrote.

He also added that tripartite expert meetings on the Ukraine-EU association agreement had brought no changes.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine on October 21 filed its first of a series of planned claims with the WTO against Russia, challenging trade restrictions on Ukrainian-produced wagons and railroad switches.

Ukraine Trade Representative Nataliya Mykolska said that Ukrainian exports declined to $51 million in the seven months of 2015 due to these restrictions on 86 groups of products. Exports in 2013 were estimated at $1.7 billion.

In her words, Ukraine will continue filing new claims against Russia in connection with trade restrictions.
