Ukraine steps up customs control after Paris terrorist attacks

Ukraine's State Fiscal Service is stepping up customs control at checkpoints across the state border of Ukraine as part of tightening security in Ukraine and on the country's customs borders in connection with terrorist threats after the tragic events in Paris, according to a posting published on the Fiscal Service's Facebook page.

"The management of the State Fiscal Service hopes for understanding of entities engaged in foreign economic activity and citizens of a temporary need to introduce additional measures to strengthen customs control of goods, vehicles and personal belongings of citizens, as well as of the fact that those measures are aimed at maintaining peace and order in the country," the posting reads.

As UNIAN reported earlier, a series of terrorist attacks hit Paris late Friday, November 13, killing at least 150 people and injuring more than 200, including 100 with serious wounds.

Later, French President Francois Hollande announced on Friday that his country was in a "state of emergency" and borders would be closed.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, in turn, announced the strengthening of security measures at Ukrainian airports and the introduction of a special border regime.
