Ukrainian airlines to continue flights to Sharm el-Sheikh

Having inspected the airport in Sharm el-Sheikh, Ukraine's State Aviation Administration announced that it would not ban Ukrainian airlines from flying in that direction, according to a statement by the Administration.

"The State Aviation Administration of Ukraine has decided after the inspection to allow further flights to/from the airport of Sharm el-Sheikh, provided airlines undertake additional security measures aimed at reducing risks to an acceptable level," the statement reads.

Representatives of the Aviation Administration noted the inspection of the airport had been conducted by examining the security measures introduced at the airport and meeting with relevant officials of the airport.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the Ukrainian aviation authorities decided to send an aviation inspector to check security procedures at Egypt's Sharm el-Sheikh airport after the crash of a Russian passenger airliner that was flying from Sharm el-Sheikh to Russia's St. Petersburg.

The Airbus-321, carrying 217 passengers and seven crew members on board, crashed in Egypt's Sinai on October 31 en route from Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg. There were no survivors in the crash.

Immediately after the incident, Ukraine's Aviation Administration barred the Ukrainian airlines from flying over Egypt's Sinai Peninsula.
