Constitutional court to consider legality of higher gas tariffs for households

The court suspended proceedings in the case regarding the legality of the increased gas tariffs for households, ruling to appeal to Ukraine’s Constitutional Court, that’s according to the deputy head of the National Commission for State Energy and Public Utilities Regulation, Dmytro Vovk.

The Constitutional Court of Ukraine will consider and rule whether the multiple increases of gas tariffs for the households in April, 2015, were, in fact, legal, Dmytro Vovk told the reporters on Wednesday.

Read alsoNaftogaz: Current gas tariffs for households to be valid until Apr 1, 2016 As UNIAN reported earlier, in fulfillment of the Memorandum with the International Monetary Fund, Ukraine's key creditor, the National Commission for State Energy and Public Utilities Regulation increased from April 1, 2015, the minimum price of gas for the population by 3.3 times - up to UAH 3,600 per thousand cubic meters of gas with the consumption volume of up to 200 cubic meters. In off-season - from May 1 to September 30 - the price of natural gas will amount to UAH 7,188 per thousand cubic meters, regardless of the volume of consumption.

Current tariffs for natural gas for the households established by the National Commission for State Regulation in Energy and utilities in early 2015 will be valid until April 1, 2016, Naftogaz CEO Andriy Kobolev said in an interview with UNIAN.

Kobolev said that the tariffs for the households may be reduced in 2016 if global prices of hydrocarbons continue their fall and the hryvnia remains stable.
