The International Monetary Fund (IMF), Ukraine's key creditor, expects direct talks over a $3 billion eurobond debt Kyiv owns to Moscow, which was included in the debt restructuring parameters, the IMF External Relations Department told UNIAN.
"At a recent meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin and IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde, the Russian side has submitted its proposal for a debt transaction that may be carried out in the context of the program of cooperation between Ukraine and the Fund. However, we have said that we expect direct discussions on the issue of debt between the Ukrainian and Russian authorities," an IMF statement reads.
As reported earlier, Putin announced Russia was ready to let Ukraine defer repaying its debt until 2016. At the same time, Ukrainian Finance Minister Natalie Jaresko said that the Ukrainian side had not yet received any proposals from the Russian government.
