The MICEX index dropped nearly 2% to 1,830 points during the trading session at the Moscow Stock Exchange on November 24. The RTS index, in turn, decreased 2.3% to 875 points. Prices fall amid reports of the downing of a Russian jet in Syria.

The index collapse did not coincide with the decline in oil prices, unlike it was in previous days.

Crude oil futures rose about 1.14% to $45.34 per barrel on Tuesday after Saudi Arabia pledged to work toward oil price stability.

Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that Russian Su-24 crashed in the territory of Syria, apparently as a result of ground fire.

In turn, the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet Daily News wrote that the Russian warplane had been shot down by Turkish F-16 fighter jets after it violated Turkish air space.

Sukhoi Su-24 strike aircraft are part of the Russian special purpose air brigade, deployed in Syria late September and stationed at Hmeymim airbase.
