National Bank buys $2.8 mln worth of foreign currency at auction

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) bought $2.8 million at the currency auction on Thursday, at the weighted average rate of 23.4250 UAH/USD, according to the website of the regulator.

As reported, banks submitted sales applications worth $3.6 million. The minimum rate proposed by the banks was 23.40 UAH/USD, and the maximum rate - 23.45 UAH/USD. 35.7% of foreign currency was sold at the minimum rate.

As UNIAN reported earlier, yesterday, the NBU announced auctions for the purchase and sale of foreign currency on the interbank market, but they were not held. According to the regulator, the market has seen a balanced currency supply and demand, reached without interventions of the NBU. During the auction, the hryvnia exchange rate strengthened.

In late October, quotes for the hryvnia against the dollar on the interbank market weakened to 23-24 UAH/USD. Therefore, the NBU changed on October 30 the purpose of holding auctions, and began selling the currency to the tune of $140 million in the course of three weeks.
