EC does not confirm receipt of letter from ten EU states criticizing Nord Stream-2

The European Commission does not confirm that it has received the letter from 10 EU countries criticizing the Nord Stream-2 project, but claims that the position on this issue remains unchanged – all projects must comply with the European legislation, Anna-Kaisa Itkonen, a spokeswoman of the Vice-President of the EC on energy issues Maros Sefcovis, said on Friday, according to an UNIAN correspondent in Brussels.

"As regards the letter, I can't confirm the receipt of such letter. And as regards Nord Stream-2 project, I think the Commission position has been expressed time and again. For us, any project operating in EU area must comply with EU legislation and we are currently looking into the project and making sure that any such projects must be in compliance with the EU law," she said, according to audiovisual services of the European Commission.

As UNIAN reported earlier citing Reuters, the letter, written on Thursday and signed by Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia, says the Nord Stream 2 project should come under the closest regulatory scrutiny and called for "an inclusive debate" at next month's EU summit.
