Egypt wants to replace Turkish goods on Russian market

Cairo has asked Moscow to provide a list of Turkish products subject to recent Russian sanctions, with a view to offer the export of similar products onto the Russian market, Egypt's Ministry of Industry and Foreign Trade said in a statement on Sunday, Russian newspaper Vedomosti reported.

The issue was discussed by Egypt's Minister of Industry and Trade Tarek Kabil and his Russian counterpart, Denis Manturov, at a meeting in the United Arab Emirates, the newspaper wrote.

The minister noted that Egypt was interested in satisfying demand of the Russian market for such goods, especially those that had earlier been supplied by Turkey, in light of Russia's decision to limit Turkish imports of fruit and vegetables onto the Russian market to 66%, as well as imports of clothes and leather.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on November 24, Turkey shot down a Russian warplane, claiming the jet had violated its airspace.

The Turkish military said they had repeatedly warned the Russian jet before opening fire.

Russia denied that the aircraft had crossed the Turkish border, claiming it was flying over the Syrian territory.

On November 28, Russia introduced sanctions against Turkey, banning the import of certain types of products and provision of services, and also cancelled the visa-free regime with Turkey, which is stipulated in a presidential order issued by Vladimir Putin.
