Cabinet reintroduces motor vehicle inspection

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the introduction of mandatory motor vehicle inspection starting 2019, the inspection of trucks from 2015, the inspection of buses from 2017, and motorcycle vehicles from 2022, according to a statement of the Infrastructure Ministry.

The relevant regulations were approved by the Government on December 9 within the framework of presentation of the draft law "On bringing Ukrainian road transport sector legislation in accordance with the European Union acts."

The document also envisages the installation of speed limitation devices for trucks up to 90 km/h (from 2015), for buses – to 100 km/h (from 2017) and for school buses – to 70 km/h.

In addition, it is proposed to introduce licensing of freight carriers (over 3.5 tonnes) from 2021, and to introduce by 2019 mandatory inspection of working / rest hours for drivers of public transport by means of tachographs.

As UNIAN reported earlier, in late 2014, the Interior Ministry pointed to the need to reintroduce mandatory motor vehicle inspection, earlier abolished in 2011. The relevant regulation is provided for by the Directive of the European Parliament on the technical roadside inspection of the roadworthiness of commercial vehicles, which Ukraine has adopted along with the Association Agreement. The Directive is to be implemented in Ukraine within five years.
