Second vessel with African coal arriving in Ukraine end of January

State-run company Centrenergo announces the arrival of a second ship with South African coal in Ukraine on January 25.

The first 49 railway cars with coal were dispatched to Trypilska thermal power plant and unloaded in coal depots, the remaining 159 railway cars left the port on December 10 in the direction of Trypillia-Dniprovske station, Centrenergo reported.

"In the morning of December 10, a total of 134,000 tonnes of coal was unloaded from the Bulk China vessel, which on December 5 arrived at Yuzhny port, as provided by the contract signed with Swiss company Mercuria Energy Trading SA on the supply of thermal coal from South Africa," a statement reads.

It is reported that all 168,000 tonnes of South African coal will be dispatched to Trypilska thermal power plant.

The company said it carried out the payment for the second batch of coal shipments from South Africa in the amount of 85,000 tonnes on December 7. The coal will be used for the needs of Zmiyivska thermal power plant.

Ukrainian Energy Minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn reported Ukraine had bought the first batch of South African coal at $57 per tonne.
