Ukraine, Turkey to facilitate creation of free trade area

Ukraine Trade Representative and Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade Nataliya Mykolska announces that Ukraine is stepping up negotiations with Turkey on the creation of a free trade area (FTA).

"We've agreed to intensify the negotiations on concluding an FTA agreement, the next round [of the talks] will take place in Turkey at the beginning of 2016," she wrote on Facebook.

With a view of promoting the business dialogue, Ukraine intends to set up a trade mission with the participation of the Ukrainian economy and agriculture ministers, who will meet with business representatives in the capital of Turkey and its regions.

Mykolska said that the delegations of both countries had agreed not to apply trade restrictions. They will also analyze with the involvement of experts and develop proposals to boost trade between the two countries and increase the number of investment projects in the Ukrainian agricultural sector, aviation, as well as the IT industry.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on September 18, Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers created three negotiating groups tasked with holding talks to establish a free trade area with Turkey, Serbia and Israel.

According to the government's decision, all the negotiating groups are headed by Ukraine Trade Representative and Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade Nataliya Mykolska.

The negotiating groups also include representatives of the Justice Ministry, the State Fiscal Service, the Economic Development Ministry, the Agriculture Ministry, and the Secretariat of the Cabinet.
