Ukraine's gross foreign debt tops $127 bln

Ukraine's gross foreign debt in the third quarter of 2015 grew by 0.4%, or $550 million, from the second quarter of 2015, to $127.5 billion, according to the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).

The U.S. dollar remained the core currency of Ukraine's borrowings abroad, accounting for 73.6% of the country's liabilities, the NBU said in a posting on its website.

The share of general state administration was 29.02% of total foreign debt, or $37.017 billion, as of the end of the third quarter and that of the Central Bank 6.8%, or $8.613 billion. Deposit-taking cooperatives accounted for 11.18%, or $14.255 billion, and other sectors for 45.9%, or $58.54 billion. Direct investment (intercompany debt) was estimated at $9.1 billion, or 7.1%.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine's gross foreign debt in the second quarter 2015 rose by 0.8%, or $1.007 billion, from the first quarter, to $126.976 billion.

At the end of 2014, Ukraine saw an 11.1% decrease in its foreign debt from the beginning of the year, to $126.307 billion.
