Oschadbank unhappy with new name of Sberbank of Russia in Ukraine

PJSC State Savings Bank of Ukraine Oschadbank says that changing the name of PJSC Subsidiary Bank Sberbank of Russia in Ukraine to Sberbank is unlawful, as it is in breach of intellectual property rights.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UAA1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oschadbank is the sole legal owner of the exclusive property rights to the following trademarks in Ukraine: Oschadbank and Sberbank, the bank's press service said.

Oschadbank asked Sberbank of Russia to immediately stop any unlawful use of the trademark "Oschadbank" in the territory of Ukraine because it misleads consumers and violates state-owned bank Oschadbank's rights.

Oschadbank says it is going to apply to the National Bank of Ukraine, the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine and even take Sberbank of Russia to court.

As UNIAN reported earlier, PJSC Subsidiary Bank Sberbank of Russia was renamed PJSC Sberbank (literally Savings Bank, or Oschadbank in the Ukrainian language) in November 2015.

In January-September 2015, the bank posted a loss of UAH 1.610 billion against a profit of UAH 104.176 million for the same period last year.

UNIAN memo. Subsidiary Bank Sberbank of Russia in Ukraine has operated in the Ukrainian market since 2001 and is one of the largest banks in terms of assets. It is wholly owned by Sberbank of Russia (the Russian Federation).
